Review: Eureka E10s – A smart robo-vac that has some endearing human quirks

The Eureka E10s is a robot vacuum cleaner that sits comfortably among its peers. It offers many features that are found in its competitors including a mapping feature so it can produce a map of the floorplan of your home from which it can determine where the boundaries and obstacles are.

We’re all constantly bombarded by the media extolling the virtues of “Smart” living. Our phones are Smart. Our TVs are Smart. Kitchen appliances, watches, drinks machines… Everything has to be Smart. However, within this Venn diagram of Smartness, it seems some Smart products are Smarter than others. Robot vacuums have embraced the Smart philosophy for a while now and I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing robot vacuum cleaners from Dreame and Switchbot so I had the benefit of having a benchmark for other robot vacuum cleaners to try and meet or even exceed.

The Eureka E10s has cleaning schedules that can be voice-controlled with the combination of the Eureka App, Alexa or Google Assistant.

It can also be set to mop* the floor as it vacuums.

With 180 minutes of run time between charging, the user could potentially benefit as this frees up time to do other things.

Being bagless and having a self-emptying dust station is a common feature, certainly with the robot vacuum cleaners that I’ve previously reviewed. It is yet another handy feature of the Eureka E10s that allergy sufferers in particular may find beneficial.

These days, we are all more eclectic with our choice of interior décor and naturally, manufacturers have to take this into consideration. So, whether your floor coverings are carpet, rug, vinyl, tile or wooden, the Eureka E10s is capable of vacuuming up all that dirt and debris with its powerful 4000 Pa (Pascals) suction power.

One of the most distinct performance features that is common among most Smart Robot Vacuum cleaners is the (in)ability to mop as well as vacuum. Maybe it’s me but I see mopping as an act of scrubbing and wiping the floor surface to clean it of stubborn dirt and leaving the floor clean and shiny. This definition is interpretted differently among robot vacuum cleaner manufacturers. In general, the mopping feature involves filling a tank with water and the device drags a cloth soaked in this water across the floor. The result of this naturally varies among manufacturers. Scrubbing the floor requires a certain level of brute force which would make the product heavier and costly resulting with it being less efficient as it would need charging more often which in turn negates any efficiency made with waiting times and ultimately defeats the purpose of having a robot vacuum cleaner in the first place!.

While there are many similar features among robot vacuum cleaners, one of the main purchase decisions rest on the cost. Entry level products start at a couple of hundred £/ $s and steadily increase to several hundred £/ $s. The Eureka E10s is sitting comfortably in the middle. Feature wise, it has a lot to offer but is it a Jack-of-all-trades and Master-of-none? Only time will tell…
